DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team captured its eighth consecutive win Friday evening with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 27-25, 25-18) over Coastal Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Blue Devils were once again led by Gracie Johnson and Kerry Keefe with a combined 29 kills and hit an impressive .520 percent as a duo. Setter Emma Worthington dished 37 dimes, while libero Madison Bryant collected 15 digs and a career-high five aces. Lizzie Fleming and Jess Robinson led the defensive charge with three blocks each.

As a team, the Blue Devils hit a season-best .467 percent. That is tied for 21st nationally in a three-set match this fall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke was stellar in the opening set with 18 kills and just two errors on 33 swings to hit .485 percent. Johnson led the way with six as Bryant picked up seven early digs.
  • The second set featured six ties after Coastal started to find its offensive rhythm with a .323 hitting percentage. Johnson’s swing continued to stay hot with eight kills, while Worthington assisted on 17 of the 19 kills. The Chanticleers attempted to take the set and held off three set points, but couldn’t find an answer for Duke’s offensive firepower.
  • Leading 2-0, Johnson and Keefe combined for seven kills and no mistakes to lead the offensive unit. Duke has served tough all year and tonight was no exception — Bryant tallied three consecutive aces to give Duke a 10-5 advantage that helped propel them to win the match.
