BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second week in a row, the SEC Player of the Week hailed from Rocky Top, as Tennessee’s Caroline Kerr earned the top conference honor along with SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This marked the third week in a row in which Kerr received conference honors, winning SEC Setter of the Week last Monday and SEC Freshman of the Week two weeks ago. She’s the first Lady Vol since All-American Erica Treiber in 2015 to win multiple weekly freshman honors from the league in the same season. By being named SEC Player of the Week, head coach Eve Rackham Watt and her staff have coached seven players to a combined 12 honors since 2018.
Kerr, a redshirt-freshman setter from Champaign, Ill., ranked second in the SEC with 11.00 assists per set for the week to help spearhead UT’s attack in sweeps over Chicago State and Evansville. In addition to her assists, she contributed to the Big Orange’s scoring by averaging 2.00 points, 1.50 aces and 1.33 kills per set throughout the weekend.
In just six sets, she recorded 66 assists to go along with nine digs, eight kills, three aces and two blocks. She opened the weekend by posting 31 assists, six kills while hitting 1.000, three digs, one ace and one block to top the Cougars. Against the Purple Aces, she tallied 35 assists, six digs, two aces and two kills.
Up next, Tennessee begins SEC play with a home match against Missouri next Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on ESPN2.
