NCAA volleyball: MACtion, Horizon, Southland results; 14-1 EIU wins; AVCA poll

In this NCAA report, we have Tuesday’s NCAA Division I women’s volleyball recaps, a look at Wednesday’s schedule and AVCA news.

There are just 13 matches on Wednesday’s schedule, including a key battle between ranked SEC teams.

The SEC’s Arkansas, the No. 14 team in the VolleyballMag.com Super 16 Media Poll, is home for AVCA No. 24 Auburn. The No. 4 team in the VBM Poll, Florida, plays host to Texas A&M.

In the Big Ten, top-ranked an unbeaten Wisconsin at Ohio State, which holds the No. 22 spot in the AVCA Poll. Also in the B1G, Maryland is at Rutgers.

The No. 5 team in the VBM Poll, Louisville, has an ACC match at Notre Dame.

AVCA No. 19 Kansas has a Big 12 match at West Virginia.

The Citadel, unbeaten at 14-0, plays host to Western Carolina in the Southern Conference.

AVCA: The AVCA Division I Women’s Volleyball Poll had a little movement this week. Stanford, now No. 3, and Florida, now No. 4, traded places. Iowa State and Western Kentucky, which were tied for No. 25, both won both their matches but dropped out and unbeaten Arizona State moved in.

Also, the AVCA national player of the week is SMU’s Emma Clothier, the graduate transfer from Florida State. Clothier had 42 kills in three victories. We would be remiss in not noting that Evansville junior Giulia Cardona had 26 kills in a three-set loss to Murray State and then 36 kills in a four-set win over Belmont, an average of 8.8 kills per set. 

Tulsa’s Kayley Cassaday leads the NCAA with 283 kills, Cardona is second with 261, and Dayton’s Lexi Almodovar has 252. Cardona leads at 5.67/set.

MACTION: The Mid-American Conference is down to just four teams unbeaten in league play, which includes Western Michigan (12-2, 2-0). Look for a feature about the Broncos on Thursday.

Tuesday, Central Michigan (7-8, 1-2) won in five at Eastern Michigan (2-13, 0-3) as Lauren Schrock had 19 kills in the 25-15, 24-26, 22-25, 25-21, 18-16 victory. Claire Ammeraal had 42 assists, 12 kills, two aces, three blocks…
