SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) contest to Ithaca College in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Viniar Athletic Center.
Senior Keara Page led Union (9-7, 2-2 Liberty League) with nine kills and .444 hitting, while first-year Maddie McCarron added four kills and a match-high five blocks. Sophomore Georgia Pool also tied for the match high with 13 digs.
Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu put down a team-leading 14 kills and Ella Graper added seven kills on .500 hitting and five blocks for Ithaca (12-3, 1-0 Liberty League).
Union managed only five kills in the opening frame and Ithaca took control early, using a 14-1 run to open up a commanding 16-4 lead. The Garnet Chargers put down 11 kills in the second stanza, but the Bombers again jumped out to an early 14-4 lead and the home team could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Ithaca again took an early 6-2 lead in the third set, and Union was unable to string together more than two consecutive points until late in the frame as the visitors completed the sweep.
Ithaca finished the afternoon hitting .278 with 42 kills and 15 errors on 97 attempts. Union put down 26 kills with 17 errors on 90 swings (.100).
Union will return to action next Saturday, when the Garnet Chargers host Manhattanville College and Curry College for a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m.
