Soaring Eagles Pick up Win in Straight Sets Over SUNY Poly

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team picked up a win in its non-conference matchup against the Wildcats from SUNY Poly in straight sets on Tuesday. 

The Soaring Eagles, who are now 2-1 all-time against the Wildcats dating back to 2014, were paced offensively by Kayla Neer ’25, who finished with seven kills. Additionally, Gabriela Rodriguez ’26 would finish with seven service aces and 12 digs, while Asia Curkendall ’25 recorded 31 set assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Wildcats would get out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set before the Soaring Eagles would go on a 9-2 run, which included four attacking errors for the hosts. Elmira would never surrender the lead for the remainder of the set, using a .182 hitting percentage compared to -.040 for the Wildcats to its advantage as EC picked up a 25-16 first set victory. 

  • In the second set, things were eerily similar for the Purple & Gold, who once again hit .182 from the floor with 12 kills (11 in the first), along with picking up another 25-16 victory in the set. In the frame, the Wildcats would hit .037 from the floor. Through the first two sets, Neer paced Elmira with five kills, while eight other Soaring Eagles contributed kills to the ledger.
