USI Volleyball struggled to keep up with Morehead State

Morehead, Ky. –  University of Southern Indiana Volleyball (9-11, 6-3 OVC) struggles to keep up with the high powered Morehead State University (10-10, 3-5 OVC) offense on Friday night in Morehead, Kentucky, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-16). 

The Screaming Eagles battled in a hard fought 25-23 first set loss. The first set began with both squads trading runs. USI went on a 6-0 run taking advantage of multiple Morehead State attacking errors. Senior outside hitter Leah Anderson (Bloomington, Illinois) gave USI a 23-21 lead with her third kill of the set. However, Morehead State countered with four straight clutch points to take the first set. 

USI dropped another set that came down to the wire, 25-21. Senior outside/right side hitter Abby Bednar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) had four crucial kills to keep the Screaming Eagles within striking distance late down 21-19. Another late surge from Morehead State proved to be too much to handle taking three out of the final four points. 

The wheels started to fall off in the third set resulting in another set loss, 25-16. MSU jumped out to a monstrous start taking a 14-4 early lead. Junior setter Carly Sobieralski (Indianapolis, Indiana) helped USI get closer with eight assists in the set. However, the early hole was too deep to climb out of dropping the match in three straight sets. 

As a team, the Screaming Eagles produced a 25 kills, 25 assists, two blocks, 60 digs and three aces. Morehead State finished the match with 46 kills, 43 assists, and three aces to pair with…
