MADISON, WISC. — Rutgers volleyball battled the top team in the nation on Friday night falling 3-0 to the Wisconsin Badgers at UW Field House.
The opening frame proved to be the closest for the Scarlet Knights with Rutgers tying up the set at 12-12 and trailing 15-14 before the Badgers took a 25-17 victory. Wisconsin continued with 25-4 and 25-16 set victories to extend its Big Ten-win streak to 25 matches.
No. 1 Wisconsin remains undefeated at 16-0 tying its best start in program history and improved its set win streak to 24 consecutive frames. Rutgers dropped to 9-8 overall and 1-6 in Big Ten play.
- Sophomore Taylor Humphrey led Rutgers with six kills with freshman Anna Hartman and redshirt sophomore Alissa Kinkela connecting for four kills apiece.
- Fifth-year senior Alyssa Nayar collected assists on all but three RU kills finishing the night with 16 helpers.
- Rutgers totaled five blocks against the Badgers led by freshman Zora Hardison.
- Freshman Kenzie Dyrstad and Kinkela led the defense with six digs each.
- Set 1 (17-25) | While Wisconsin started off the night with a 6-2 lead, Rutgers would tie the frame up twice. Badger attack errors knotted the score at 10-10 and 12-12. After the final tie of the set at 12-12, the hosts responded with the next three points, but the Scarlet Knights would use back-to-back kills from Alissa Kinkela and Anna Hartman to trail 15-14.
