Badgers steam past Boilermakers | Wisconsin Badgers

MADISON, Wis. — After dropping the second set, the No. 2 Wisconsin volleyball team responded with force and beat No. 19 Purdue in four sets, 25-14, 16-25, 25-18, 25-14, at the UW Field House on Wednesday night. 

Wisconsin (21-1, 12-1) got off to a quick start, with a convincing first set win. A 6-0 run fueled by two service aces from Gulce Guctekin put the set out of reach for Boilermakers (14-8, 8-5). After the run, the UW lead was 22-13. Purdue held off one set point, but Wisconsin grabbed the 25-14 first set victory. 

Wisconsin struggled offensively in the second set and the Boilermakers took control to tied the match up at one apiece.

The Badgers responded well in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. After being knotted up at 12 apiece, UW went on a 6-1 run and forced a Purdue timeout at 18-13. The Boilermakers sided out after their timeout, but a Sarah Franklin kill and Purdue error forced another timeout at 20-14. From there, UW closed it out to take the 25-18 win. 

UW jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the fourth, behind four kills from Franklin combined with two blocks during that stretch. Purdue put together a run of their own and forced a Wisconsin timeout as the Boilermakers trailed 11-17. However, out of the timeout, the Badgers went on a 4-0 run and used that momentum to close out the match with a 25-14 victory.
