SEATTLE – Tying the most wins for a Husky freshman, Kierstyn Barton earned her third Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award of the season today. The outside hitter from Chandler, Ariz. led the Huskies on the road in the Bay Area with 27 kills and her 22 digs were second-most on the team.
Washington split its road trip, getting a four set victory at California on Friday then falling in four sets at 5th-ranked Stanford on Sunday. Against the Bears, Barton tied for the team-lead with Madi Endsley, as both players had 17 kills. Barton also added two aces and two blocks in that match.
Sunday, she had the third double-double of her season with 10 kills and a career-high 13 digs, plus two more blocks.
Barton had just six attack errors on the week to hit .276 overall. She has now reached double-digit kills in 10 of her past 13 matches, with 15 or more kills in five of those ten.
Barton joins Madi Endsley (2020) and Krista Vansant (2011) as the only Huskies to win three Freshman of the Week honors.
This week the Huskies (14-11, 5-9 Pac-12) are back home with two huge match-ups against USC and UCLA. The 25th-ranked Trojans are tied for second in the Pac-12 at 10-4 and visit on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. Then UCLA comes in on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
