Big 12 to Add Beach Volleyball

IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference will add beach volleyball for the 2024-25 academic year, Commissioner Brett Yormark announced today, giving Sun Devil Beach Volleyball a spot in the Big 12.

“We could not be more excited to have a home in the Big 12,” head coach Kristen Rohr said. “This is another big step for the growth of not only this program but for the sport. We look forward to finishing this final Pac-12 season strong and then to competing in the Big 12 in 2025!”

In addition to beach volleyball, lacrosse is being added as well. Beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse are both experiencing growth and popularity on a national level. The additions will allow incoming and current members to compete for national championships wearing the Big 12 Logo while expanding the league’s brand at the highest level.

“I’m thrilled for this great opportunity for our student athletes!” said Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Christina Wombacher. “I am excited to further amplify Olympic sports and the Big 12 brand. We are all looking forward to a great student-athlete experience competing for championships.”

Among Big 12 Conference institutions for the 2024-25 season, Arizona, Arizona State, TCU and Utah sponsor beach volleyball. The additions bring the Conference’s total of sponsored sports to 25, including 15 women’s sports.

“Beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse are both experiencing growth and popularity on a national level,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark.  “The additions will allow incoming and current members to compete for national championships under the Big 12 umbrella while expanding the league’s footprint across new sports.”
