Volleyball Thwarted By Indiana In Three Sets

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rutgers volleyball battled Indiana thru 21 ties in the first two frames but ultimately dropped the series finale with the Hoosiers in three sets.

The opening frame saw 10 ties with the Hoosiers opening with a 25-22 win while the second set had the Scarlet Knights and Hoosiers tied up on 11 occasions with five lead changes before Indiana went up 2-0 in a 25-19 victory. The match wrapped up with the hosts winning the third set 25-17.

Indiana improved to 18-10 overall and 8-7 in Big Ten play. Rutgers dropped to 10-15 overall and 2-13 in league action.

 

  • Set 1 (22-25) | A 3-0 burst put RU up 11-8 with a back-and-forth battle ensuing as Indiana came back to tie the frame six times. The Hoosiers took the lead at 20-19 on the second point of a 6-1 run leading to a 24-20 edge. Alissa Kinkela collected a trio of kills, five digs and two blocks to lead RU.

 

  • Set 2 (19-25) | The frame endured 11 total ties. A Lexi Visintine swing knotted the score at 16-16 with neither team holding more than a two-point lead up to that point. The Hoosiers, however, responded with a 5-1 run and closed the frame outscoring RU 9-3 to go up 2-0 in the match.

 

  • Set 3 (17-25) | The Hoosiers did not trail in the final frame hitting a match-best .538. Indiana allowed Rutgers back-to-back points twice in the set including an ace from Kenzie Dyrstad that has the Scarlet Knights trail 15-10. Taylor Humphrey posted five kills while Kristina…
