Balanced Attack Unable to Push Utah Volleyball Past #17 Arizona State

Tempe, AZ It was a back-and-forth battle with the No. 17-ranked Sun Devils from Arizona State as Utah Volleyball fell in straight sets (23-25, 25-27, 17-25). The Utes battled deep into the first two sets with the scoreboard changing leads three times each in the first two sets and showing 23 ties.

Utah would outswing Arizona State in the first set, putting down 19 kills to the Sun Devils’ 15. Amelia Van Der Werff was flawless in the opening set, putting down five kills on eight attempts and recording a .625 hitting percentage.

 

The Utah attack was evenly dispersed throughout the night. With Kamryn Gibadlo posting a team-high 10 kills, it was her third match in a row and 15th this season with double-digit kills. Allie Olsen, Lauren Jardine, Emrie Satuala and Van Der Werff would each tally eight kills apiece. Satuala posted a team-high .462 kill percentage, adding a solo block and block at the net.

 

Viktoria Wahlgren kept the offense alive with 31 of Utah’s 41 assists on the night, adding 11 digs to go along with two kills. Vanessa Ramirez set the Utes up on six assists and leading the team with 17 digs.

  

UP NEXT

Utah returns home for a weekend series with Washington and Washington State. On Friday, Nov. 17, the Utes will host the Washington Huskies at 7:00 p.m. MT from the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah will conclude their series with Washington State on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 12:00 p.m.
