Lewis Women's Volleyball Sweeps Indianapolis in GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals


WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. – The No. 2 seed Lewis University women’s volleyball team swept No. 7 Indianapolis on Friday (Nov. 17) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Quarterfinals. The Flyers held the Greyhounds to a .062 attack percentage in the match, headlined by eight blocks.

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Lewis 25, Indianapolis 15

Lewis started the match up 3-0, but UIndy came right back with a 4-0 run to take an early lead. Play went back-and-forth after that, until two service aces in a row by Stenman highlighted a 5-0 Flyers run that gave Lewis a 14-8 advantage.

The Greyhounds took three of the next four points, but did not secure consecutive points for the rest of the set. The Flyers took 10 of the last 14 points in the opening set, finishing it with a block by O’Neill and Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs). Hickey recorded her 1,000th career dig in the first set for Lewis.

Set 2: Lewis 25, Indianapolis 17

The second set started 3-3 before the Flyers used a 10-2 run with five kills to build a 13-5 lead. Later in the set, a 5-0 burst from the Greyhounds cut Lewis’ lead to 20-16, but that was as close as UIndy would get.

A 4-0 run by the Flyers made it set point, and Schlechte finished the set with a kill. Lewis outhit the Greyhounds, .314-.000, in the frame, with four blocks contributing to UIndy’s 10 attack errors.

Set 3: Lewis 25, Indianapolis 22

Set three started tight until three consecutive errors by the Greyhounds made it 7-4 Flyers. UIndy later answered with four straight points to tie the set at 10.

The set continued go go back-and-forth, with the lead changing hands four times before a 5-0 push by the Greyhounds gave UIndy the 19-15 advantage. Lewis stayed composed, though, immediately going on a 6-0 run of its own with four kills to grab a 21-19 lead.

The Flyers finished the set and match by taking four of the final six points, with Schlechte earning the kill on match point.
