Argentina Ung Named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 14, 2023) — Washington State senior setter Argentina Ung capped her season earning AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Ung joined Cougar teammate and fifth-year senior middle blocker Magda Jehlářová on the All-American teams after Jehlářová became the first Washington State women’s volleyball student-athlete in program history to achieve multiple first-team All-America honors after being named to the first team. It is just the fourth time in program history that multiple Cougars earned All-America honors (1996, 2018, 2021) in the same season.

Ung, who was also named to the AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention, ranks No. 32 in the nation and third in the Pac-12 Conference this season with 10.46 assists/set and helped the Cougar offense set a single-season program record with a .286 team hitting percentage as a team, the tenth-best mark in the NCAA this season. Ung moved into the Top-10 all-time at WSU for career assists (2,513) with only two seasons as a starting setter. She averaged 2.06 digs/set this season, to go along with 119 kills and 100 blocks highlighted by a career-high eight-block performance in the upset win at sixth-ranked Texas.

Ung helped WSU reach 20 wins for a third consecutive season, the first such stretch since 1995-97, as the 2023 Cougars finished with a 26-8 overall record, the highest win total for any team under Head Coach Jen Greeny and the most wins since the 1997 team that reached the NCAA Sweet 16.
