COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Maryland volleyball head coach Adam Hughes announced the addition of outside hitter Skylar Gerhardt on Friday. The Manhattan Beach, California native arrives joins the program after two seasons with Villanova.

“We’re excited to have Skylar joining the program and thrilled she’ll be able to join us this Spring”, said Hughes. “In the past few seasons, we’ve had a lot of success with student-athletes joining us during the winter break. It gives them a chance to understand not only how we play but what our culture is all about. We know Skylar competed at an extremely high level in club, winning a national championship. We’ve also seen Skylar continue to develop in her college career and look forward to seeing her continue that growth here in College Park.”
Gerhardt exploded for a huge season in her sophomore campaign in Philadelphia. Gerhardt made 31 consecutive starts as a six-rotation outside hitter for the Wildcats. Gerhardt led the team in aces (43), was third on the team in kills (295), and fifth in digs (235). As a consistent member of the Wildcats’ rotation, Gerhardt would post three double-doubles, 12 double-digit kill performances, and 10-plus dig matches on her way to be the team’s leading scorer. Gerhardt finished her two years with Villanova with 311 kills, 47 aces, and 266 digs across 45 games (33 starts) and 132 sets. During her freshman season, Gerhardt also earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors.
Before lacing it up for the Wildcats, Gerhardt starred for Mira Costa High School, where she was four-year letterwinner on their varsity team. During her senior season at Mira Costa, Gerhardt would lead them to a first place finish in the Bay League Conference and to the semifinals of the CIF State Southern Section Playoffs for Division 1. Mira Costa would also finish that season ranked 17th nationally in the AVCA/USA Today poll. Gerhardt also played club volleyball with Sunshine Volleyball Club.
