Mighty Al Rayyan successfully defended their HH the Amir Volleyball Cup title after 3-0 rout of Police SC in the highly-anticipated final match at the Qatar Volleyball Federation Hall on Friday.
Al Rayyan, which had already captured the title for 16 times, succeeded in presenting a strong match, pulling off a thrilling straight-set 26-24, 25-19, 25-18 win against Police SC for record 17th time in history. At the previous edition last. year, Al Rayyan defeated Al Arabi in the final clash.
It seemed that luck was not with Police SC as they had advanced to eight finals in total, but emerged triumphant just once in 2022. They went down in seven showdowns to Al Arabi in 2008, 2009, 2014 and 2020 apart from succumbing their defeat to Al Rayyan in 2013, 2019 and 2024.
Mr Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Volleyball Association, congratulated the Al Rayyan team on their exceptional performances to win the championship title, and the Police team on their determined efforts despite securing the second place.
Al-Kuwari said in press statements after the match that both teams performed more than “wonderfully” during the final match of the tournament.
The HH the Amir Volleyball Cup this season witnessed intense competitions between strong teams contesting various stages of the action-packed tournament, which reflected the great technical development at the club level. The current season has been said to be the best technically, and all the teams have made great efforts in achieving their ambitions in various tournaments.
