Manama, Bahrain, August 1, 2024 – Pakistan overcame a mid-game collapse to defeat Chinese Taipei 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23) on Thursday and moved a step closer to securing a semi-final berth in the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall C here.
After taking the first set, the Pakistanis appeared to be headed to a commanding advantage, with a block by Muhammad Yahya giving them set point at 24-16. But in a stunning turn of events, Chinese Taipei strung together the next 10 points, and a brilliant defensive stop by skipper Chiang Bing-Shiuan sealed their comeback and drew the match level at one frame apiece.
But Chinese Taipei could not build on their newfound momentum and the Pakistanis recovered right away. They took the third set in convincing fashion before doing enough in the fourth to seal the contest. Muhtad Ali Shah supplied the match-clinching spike from the left wing.
Yahya put in a class performance with 29 points to spearhead the victors, while Shah added 15 in their triumph. Hu Jun-Xiang was Chinese Taipei’s leading man with 15, while Chiang contributed 10.
Pakistan improved to five points on the Pool F standings with their win, while Chinese Taipei stayed on zero.
