Lewis’ Dan Friend’s USA Beach Teams to Play in 2024 World University Championship


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Volleyball will be sending six teams to the 2024 Beach World University Championship. Three of which are men’s teams led by Lewis Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Dan Friend

“I’m excited, honored, and blessed to wear the USA hat again,” Friend said. “It’s a great group of young athletes who have the opportunity to compete at the highest level. I’m looking forward to an incredible venue and location.” 

The tournament takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It consists of ten groups of pool play to determine positioning for a 32 team bracket play. 

The Men’s teams are made up of Pat Rogers (Ball State) / John Schwengel (Santa Monica College), Thomas Hurst (UC Irvine) / Gage Basey (University of Colorado, Boulder) and Nato Dickinson (Long Beach State) / Jackson Herbert (George Mason).

Group play is to begin on Sept. 3 and run through Sept. 7.
