Duke Welcomes LSU, Davidson & FIU to Cameron Indoor Stadium


DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team will host its second tournament weekend as it welcomes LSU, Davidson and FIU to Cameron Indoor Stadium. All three matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
 
Last Time Out

  • Duke went 1-2 in its 2024 opening weekend as it downed Colgate (3-2) before falling to No. 13 Kansas (1-3) and South Carolina (1-3). 
  • Outside hitter Kerry Keefe paced Duke with 43 kills, while middle hitter Rylie Kadel added 42 kills and posted an impressive .529 hitting percentage. Defensively, freshman libero Mailinh Godschall tallied 55 digs while setters Grace Penn and Nikki Quinn dished 83 and 63 dimes, respectively. 
  • Head coach Jolene Nagel tallied her 500th victory at the helm of the Blue Devils in the win over Colgate. 

A Closer Look at the Series
 
LSU
Thursday marks the ninth meeting between the two programs as the series is tied, 4-4. The Blue Devils are 2-0 under head coach Jolene Nagel
DAVIDSON
Duke and Davidson meet for the first time in program history. The two squads have played in several exhibition matches over the years. 
FIU
Duke and FIU meet for just the third time in program history and for the first time since 1976. The Blue Devils are 2-0 in matches.

Kadel in the Opening Weekend

  • Senior middle blocker Rylie Kadel had an outstanding start to the 2024 season against Colgate, No. 13 Kansas and South Carolina. 
  • She is tied for ninth nationally with a .529 hitting percentage as she knocked down 42 kills over the weekend. She notched a career-high 16 against Colgate as she posted a .625 clip with just one error to go along with five blocks. 
  • Against the 13th-ranked Jayhawks, she added 11 kills, two aces and two blocks for a .529 hitting percentage.

Freshmen Starting Assignments

  • Duke’s freshmen were on full display in its opening weekend as Mailinh Godschall, Breonna Goss, Avery Hamlin and Taylor Williams all saw starting assignments over the three games. 
  • Godschall was Duke’s starting libero all weekend and tallied 55 digs, 12 assists and five aces.
  • Goss started in all three matches and tallied 12 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. 
  • Hamlin started against No. 13 Kansas and grabbed seven kills, five digs and two blocks over the weekend. 
  • Williams earned the starting nod against the Gamecocks and paced all freshmen with 23 kills, two aces…
