DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision (23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 23-25) against LSU Thursday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With the setback, the Blue Devils drop to 1-3 overall this fall and have lost three straight.
Duke was led by Kerry Keefe with 13 kills for a .275 hitting percentage, while Rylie Kadel added 10 for a .389 clip. Three Blue Devils notched double-digit digs, led by libero Mailinh Godschall with a career-high 27 digs. Setter Grace Penn dished 22 assists, while Kadel paced the blocking unit with five blocks.
LSU’s AC Froehlich and Jurnee Robinson led the Tigers’ attacking with 14 and 13, respectively.
How It Happened
- LSU took the opening set with help from three aces despite having a worse hitting percentage than its opponent. Duke led 21-16 but couldn’t find an answer to a late LSU run.
- The Blue Devils bounced back in the second set as they dominated with a .237 hitting percentage to LSU’s .071. Kadel led the team with four kills, while Breonna Goss was flawless with three kills and no mistakes. Nikki Quinn came off the bench to dish seven dimes while Godschall slowed down LSU’s offense with 10 digs.
- LSU responded to regain the lead, 2-1. Froehlich paced an offense that hit .318 as a team with seven kills and no errors despite Duke tallying six block assists.
