MADISON, Wis. – After a historic week, Wisconsin volleyball’s Sarah Franklin was named Big Ten Player of the Week, announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday, September 17 at the Kohl Center Classic versus Marquette, Franklin tallied 33 kills on 60 swings. On the fifth kill of the night against the Golden Eagles, the Florida native attained 1,500 kills in her career and moves up to fifth all-time for most career kills. Arlisa Hagen (1989-92) was previously ranked fifth with 1,495 kills. The 33 kills set a program record for most kills in a single match as well. The six-foot-four outside hitter surpassed Badger legend, Dana Rettke, who held the record against Minnesota in 2018.
In addition to her 33 kills Tuesday, Franklin combined for 23 kills and 20 digs against Troy and Texas A&M when Wisconsin hosted the Wisconsin Invite this past weekend. With those numbers, Franklin has become just the third Badger in program history to record 1,500 kills and 500 digs. Amy Lee (1994-97) recorded 1,661 kills and 858 digs in her career, while Brittany Dolgner tallied 1,643 kills with 1,025 digs.
Overall, Franklin averaged 5.60 kills per set and hit .427 on the week (56-9-110). She chipped in with 28 digs for an average of 2.80 digs per set, and added two service aces.
This week’s Big Ten Player of the week marks the sixth time Franklin earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in her career.
