Volleyball Comebacks Fall Short – Muhlenberg College Athletics

Franklin & Marshall

A pair of comebacks came up short as the Muhlenberg volleyball team was swept at Rowan in its final tuneup for Centennial Conference play.

The Mules (5-6) trailed 23-15 in the first set before going on a 9-1 run to tie the score. Freshman Olivia Bruno served back-to-back aces and four different players recorded kills in the run.

Rowan (6-7), however, netted the last two points to take the set.

In the second set, Muhlenberg trailed 17-10 before roaring back again. A 12-3 run, featuring three kills and a block by senior Rachel Jacobs and two kills and consecutive aces from junior Christina Marcin, gave the Mules a 22-20 edge.

Again the Profs finished the set strong, coming back to win five of the last six points for a 25-23 win.

Muhlenberg held a 13-11 lead midway through the third set, but this time it was Rowan that went on a big run, taking the set 25-16 to complete the sweep.

Marcin led the Mules with 10 kills. Senior Esmae Oehler (pictured above) finished with 8 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Jenny Ryan recorded 25 assists and a match-high 13 digs.
