Soaring Eagles Compete at Pitt-Bradford Invitational on Saturday Afternoon


BRADFORD, Pa. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team dropped both ends of its tri-match hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday afternoon. After falling to the hosts in four sets (22-25, 27-25, 16-25, 22-25), the Soaring Eagles would drop its second match of the afternoon to Wilson College in five sets (22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 15-17).

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. PITT-BRADFORD):

  • The opening set would see itself tied at 6-6 before the Panthers saw six consecutive points go its way, using three kills, two service aces, and a Soaring Eagle attacking error to its advantage. Eventually trailing 19-12 in the frame, Elmira would use a run of its own, scoring five consecutive points on kills from Madi Conti ’28 and Morgan Richardson ’25, as well as a pair of service aces from Erin Bracken ’28 to pull within three. Following a timeout from PBU, Gabriella Rustine ’26 would notch a kill to bring EC within a pair, but the Panthers would eventually take the set 25-22. 
  • The second set would see eight ties, proving to be the most back-and-forth of the match. With Elmira trailing 21-15 in the lategoing, the Purple & Gold would make a push, scoring four consecutive points with a pair of kills from Conti, and one from Morgan Sica ’28. Eventually trailing 23-20, Elmira would tie the set with another kill from Conti, an attacking error from the Panthers, and another service ace from Bracken. A kill from Asia Curkendall ’25 would eventually put Elmira in the driver’s seat, and they would eventually put the set away with back-to-back attacking errors from Bradford to even the match at 1-1. 
  • The Panthers would take a 2-1 advantage in the match following a 25-16 third set victory in which the home team hit .296 on 12 kills and just four errors. EC would eventually see its lowest hitting percentage in a set during the match in the fourth (.025%), compared to .250% for Bradford,.
