WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Michigan State volleyball held its own against No. 10-ranked Purdue on Sunday night, but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) inside Holloway Gymnasium on Big Ten Network.

MSU moves to 7-8 overall (0-4 B1G) while the Boilermakers improve to 12-3 (3-1 B1G). The Spartans return home for the first time in three weeks when they welcome No. 3-ranked Penn State and Illinois to the Breslin Student Events Center for Michigan State’s B1G home opener. Saturday afternoon’s match against Illinois will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network with a 4:05 p.m. first serve.

Junior outside hitter Taylor Preston led Michigan State with 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Taylah Holdem added six kills and seven digs, while sophomore middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig tallied six blocks.

Senior libero Nalani Iosia led MSU with 20 digs, her sixth time this season with 20 or more digs in a match. Recording her fourth double-double of the season was senior setter Julia Bishop who posted 27 assists and 11 digs.

Both sides battled back-and-forth in set one with a kill by Preston tying the frame at 14-14 just ahead of the media timeout. Purdue used a 6-1 run to build a five-point 20-15 advantage over the Spartans heading into the late stages, but Michigan State responded with a 3-0 run of its own to pull within a pair. A Kulig kill brought the score to 20-18 and forced a Purdue timeout. Holdem found the floor out of the back row to keep MSU within striking distance at 21-19, but the Boilermakers ended set one on a 4-0 run to take it.
