TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona lost to No. 13 Arizona State in Tempe on Wednesday night. The Cats dropped the first set 20-25 before winning the second set 25-23 but lost the last two sets 29-31 and 15-25.
Jaelyn Hodge reached the 1,400 career kill milestone – the eighth player in program history to reach 1,400 kills – in the second set and totaled 20 kills in the match. Hodge also tallied her third double-double of the season with 20 kills and 13 digs. Arizona recorded 10 blocks and was led by Kiari Robey with five blocks. Hodge and Journey Tucker both had four kills each.
ASU took the first set, 25-20. Three Cats – Hodge, Robey, and Jordan Wilson – had three kills each but the Sun Devils used a 6-0 run to win the opening set. Wilson also had a solo block, but it wasn’t enough for Arizona.
Arizona won the second set, 25-23, to tie the match. The Wildcats had four blocks in the set led by Hodge with three blocks and Robey with two. Hodge also tallied five kills and hit .400 to lead the Cats. Arizona’s defense held ASU to a .111 hitting percentage and the Cats fought off 11 tie scores to win the set.
The Wildcats fell 31-29 in the third set. The Wildcats went on a 6-0 run after dropping the first two points of the set to the Sun Devils, but ASU went on their own 6-0 run to take the lead. The rest of the set, both teams traded points until ASU won the last two points. Arizona recorded…
