Duke Tallies a 3-1 Victory at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory (25-23, 31-33, 25-19, 25-22) at Wake Forest, Friday evening at Reynolds Gym in Winston-Salem, N.C. 
 
With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Demon Deacons drop to 10-6 (2-3 ACC). 
 
Duke featured four players with double-doubles: Kerry Keefe (16 kills, 14 digs), Grace Penn (43 assists, 17 digs), Rachel Richardson (11 kills, 10 digs) and Taylor Williams (16 kills, 11 digs). 
 
Breonna Goss and Rylie Kadel led the blocking unit with three total, while Williams and Mailinh Godschall added two aces. 
 
How it Happened

  • Duke opened the match and took an early 1-0 lead as Keefe and Richardson led the offense with four kills each despite Wake Forest tallying 10 block assists. 
  • Wake Forest responded to outlast Duke in the second-set marathon that went to 33-31. Paige Crawford hit .385 percent as she notched six of her 14 kills in the second frame. 
  • Wake Forest committed four service errors to help push Duke to regain the match lead, 2-1. Williams hit .500 percent with five kills, while Penn tallied seven digs to lead the defensive unit. 
  • The Blue Devils saw their best offensive output of the day in the fourth frame with a .250 hitting percentage. Wake Forest continued to block Duke’s attackers but couldn’t find an answer on its own offensive front.
