Terps Drop Match To No. 9 Badgers, 3-0

MADISON, WI – Maryland volleyball was defeated by No. 9 Wisconsin, 3-0, (15-25, 11-25, 15-25) on Friday at UW Field House. The Terps now sit at 10-6 overall and 1-4 in Big Ten play. 

The Terps battled against the top-10 team but could not come away with a set victory. They continue their road trip with a matchup against No. 14 Minnesota on Saturday. 

Samantha Schnitta finished the match with a team-high nine kills, adding five digs. Sydney Bryant (five kills and two digs), Sydney Dowler (24 assists and four digs), Sam Csire (five kills, two digs and one block and one ace) and Anastasia Russ (three kills and one block were other standout performers. 

Dowler’s ace tied her with Katie Myers (2016-19) for seventh on Maryland’s career service aces list. She now has 112 aces in her career. 

The Badgers improved to 10-4 on the season, including 4-1 in conference play. 

Breaking Down The Action

Set 1: Wisconsin 25 – Maryland 15 

• The Badgers opened the first set with back-to-back kills before Samantha Schnitta recorded one of her own. 
• Wisconsin led 7-2, but two attack errors cut their lead to three.
• Kills by Anastaisa Russ and Sam Csire sandwiched between another attack error cut the lead to 8-7. 
• Wisconsin went on a 5-0 run to lead 14-8.
• The Badgers closed out the set with a kill and attack error. 

Set 2: Wisconsin 25 – Maryland 11  

• Maryland trailed 4-3 with a kill by Schnitta and two attack errors. 
• Both teams traded points until Wisconsin went on a 7-0 run to lead 17-9, forcing a Maryland timeout. 
• Schnitta and Eva Rohrbach recorded kills, but Wisconsin closed out the set.   

Set 3: Wisconsin 25 – Maryland 15 

• The Terps began set three down 5-2. 
• The Terps ended Wisconsin’s run with a kill by Schnitta but trailed 9-4.
• A kill and service ace by Csire cut the lead to 17-11.

• 3: Sydney Dowler ranks fourth all-time in assists for Maryland. She now has 3668 assists. 
• 8: Dowler ranks tied for seventh in program history with 112 service aces. 
• 8: Sam Csire is 8th in program history with 1323 career kills. 
• 8: Entering the contest, the Terps ranked No. 8 in the NCAA in aces per set.
