Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Iona, 3-0

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team had a successful performance at Hammel Court as they overtook the Gaels in three straight sets.

How It Happened
The Warriors came out strong, igniting a 6-1 run. The Gaels would remain persistent, hammering four straight points to make it 6-5. The Warriors began to pick up steam in the later half of the set, posting another 6-1 run which proved too difficult for the Gaels to come back from. The Warriors would secure the first set win, 25-19. The second set was a nail biter, with both teams trading blows for the first five points. The Gaels took the upper hand in the middle of the set, capitalizing off Merrimack’s attack errors. The Warriors showed perseverance, with Mckenna Shotwell leading the charge in a four-point run and the Julz CarlatAubrey Baker tandem tied the score at 16. Both teams remained neck and neck for the rest of the set until Morgan Thurlow delivered the final blow, which led the Warriors to a second set victory, 28-26. The third set was just as close as the second, with both teams trading points to kick start the set. The Warriors were able to tally five straight points to cruise to a 14-8 advantage. The Gaels would respond with a 7-1 run that closed the gap 21-20. After a timeout, the Warriors returned to the court to claim a 26-24 victory.
