HAMMOND, Ind. — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team was unable to come away with the victory in its first match of the day as the Flyers lost to No. 15 Grand Valley State at the Hammond Sportsplex however in the second match Lewis was able to reverse sweep and defeat Walsh 3-2 Friday (Oct. 18). With the victory in the second game, Head Coach Lorelee Smith recorded her 500th career win at Lewis.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Walsh
Set 1: Walsh 25, Lewis 16
Both teams went back-and-forth before Lewis scored three straight after kills from Ray and a pair from Alvey to make it 6-4. Walsh went on a 9-1 rally which put the Cavaliers ahead 13-7 almost halfway through the first set.
The Flyers were able to make it as close as four (19-15) after kills from Buxton and Ray. Walsh closed out the set on a 6-1 rally which gave them a 25-16 set victory.
Set 2: Walsh 30, Lewis 28
Both teams traded points early on again before five straight points by Walsh put them ahead 9-5 early in the set. Ray was able to make it as close as two (12-10) with a kill but Walsh scored five more in a row for a 17-10 lead.
Lewis fought back and was able to tie it 21-21 after recording four straight points capped off by a kill from Ray. Both teams traded points then the Flyers went ahead 28-27 after a kill from Schultz.
Walsh was able to close out the second set after winning the next three points and won the second 30-28 and went up 2-0.
Set 3: Lewis 25, Walsh 23
Lewis jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after a block from Stefanski and Ray. Walsh charged back and outscored the Flyers 8-3 the next 11 points to go ahead 9-7.
Two straight kills from Buxton and Alvey quickly tied it at 9-9 before the Cavs scored the next four which gave them a 13-9 lead. Walsh led for a majority of the third set before going up 20-17.
