COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland volleyball was defeated by Illinois, 3-0, (26-28, 17-25, 23-25) on Sunday at the Fighting Illini’s Huff Hall. The Terps are now 10-9 overall and 1-7 in Big Ten play.
The first set was hard-fought. The Terps led 12-6, but the Illini battled back in extra play by scoring the final three points. The final two sets were controlled throughout by the Illini (13-5, 5-3 Big Ten).
Sam Csire added seven kills and seven digs. She moved up to sixth all-time in program history with 1349 career kills. She broke a tie with Ashleigh Crutcher (1,342 from 2011-14) and passed Mary Cushman (1,344 from 2010-13).

Sydney Bryant led Maryland with 10 kills and three blocks. Sydney Dowler and Zoe Huang combined for 27 assists, totaling 16 and 11, respectively. Eva Rohrbach added four kills, four blocks and three digs. Dowler also recorded four service aces and moved up to fifth in program history in career aces. She broke a tie with Katie Myers (112 from 2016-19) and passed Beth Gillming (113 from 2004-07).

Samantha Schnitta finished the match with seven kills, 10 digs and two aces. She added to her total of 5r service aces to lead the NCAA.
Breaking Down The Action
Set 1: Illinois 28 – Maryland 26
- Maryland opened set one leading 4-2 after a back-row kill by Samantha Schnitta.
- A stuff block by Anastasia Russ and Sydney Bryant at 12-6 put the Terps up by six.
- Sydney Dowler put down a tight pass on Maryland’s side at 19-15.
- The Terps were hitting a .333 following another kill by Sam Csire at 20-16
- Eva Rohrbach tied the score 25-25 with a kill off of a slide attack.

- The Terps struggled to side out, trailing 8-0 at the start of set two. Coach Adam Hughes called two early timeouts, trailing 6-0 and 8-0.
