COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior outside hitter Taylor Preston posted her first double-double of the season on Thursday night in Michigan State volleyball’s 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22) loss to Maryland at the Xfinity Center Pavilion.
Preston led the Spartans with 12 kills on Thursday, adding 10 digs for her first double-double at MSU.
MSU moves to 8-16 (1-12 B1G) while Maryland improves to 11-13 (2-11 B1G). Spartan volleyball continues on the road tomorrow night when Michigan State meets Rutgers at Jersey Mike’s Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Scarlet Knights enter the match 5-19 (0-13 B1G) following a 3-0 loss to UCLA on Thursday night.
Sophomore middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig hit .400 with seven kills (7-1-15) and led Michigan State with eight blocks. Posting a career-high in block assists was sophomore outside Taylah Holdem with five. Senior setter Julia Bishop posted 28 assists along with eight digs. Sophomore outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska posted a season-high 13 digs and senior libero Nalani Iosia added a match-high 16.
MSU hit .120 for the match along with a match-best 61 digs. The Spartans also posted 13 blocks and five service aces. Kulig added two aces to her final tally to lead Michigan State with 14 total points.
Maryland led by as many as 10 points in set one using an 8-2 run to lead MSU 19-9. Michigan State cut into that lead quickly out of a timeout using a pair of Bishop kills to pull within 20-13 on a 4-1 stretch.
