RV Lewis Women’s Volleyball Team Swept the Opposition


KIRKSVILLE, MO – The (RV) Lewis University women’s volleyball team clashed against Truman State University on Nov. 9 and won a clean 3-0 sweep.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Truman State

Set 1: Lewis 25, Truman State 15

To start the game, Lewis took the first points thanks to a kill and a block by Buxton. Truman scored the next point to get on the board, however, Lewis fired back by scoring the next six points to shoot ahead 8-1.

This was followed by back and forth scoring from the Flyers and the Bulldogs for a while until Lewis scored three consecutive points to put themselves in a greater 17-8 lead. After some more alternating points, Lewis scored another three consecutive points, courtesy of Stefanski and two attack errors, that put the score at 23-12.

Truman was just not able to keep up with Lewis for the remainder of the set and lost it after a kill by Hannah Alvey (Mapleton, Ill./Illinois Central College). The Flyers moved into set two after a promising 25-15 start.

Set 2: Lewis 25, Truman State 12

Moving into the second set, the Flyers started off strong by scoring the first six points courtesy of Buxton, Januski and Stefanski. The Bulldogs responded with three consecutive points, only for Lewis to counter that with three of their own points to put the set at 9-3.

After a point for each team the Flyers managed to score the next five points to put their lead at 15-4. The Bulldogs were able to respond with three consecutive points, but they were still at a 16-8 deficit.

For the rest of the set, points were being scored by both sides, however, Lewis always managed to stay ahead of Truman. The set ended after three consecutive points by Buxton, Ray and an attack error so the Flyers moved into the third set after a dominant 25-12 victory.

Set 3: Lewis 25, Truman State 19
