Bella Ray and Ally Hickey Awarded All-GLVC Honors


INDIANAPOLIS — The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Thursday (Nov. 21) its 2024 GLVC Volleyball Postseason Awards as Lewis women’s volleyball players Bella Ray (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and Ally Hickey (Granger, Ind./Penn) were named to All-GLVC teams. Ray received All-GLVC First Team Honors for the third straight year and All-GLVC Honors for the fourth consecutive season while Hickey was named All-GLVC Second Team for the second campaign in a row.

The league office announced the awards and presented them at the banquet on Thursday night.  The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Ray has played and started in all 29 matches up until this point and has seen the floor in 107 out of a possible 108 sets for Lewis. The graduate student has recorded 333 kills so far in 2024 and ranks third in the GLVC with a .341 attack percentage.

At the net, the Plainfield, Illinois native ranks first in total blocks in the league with 148 blocks (1.37 blocks/set). This season, Ray broke the school record for total blocks in a career as she now has 527 and counting. 

Ray received the last edition of the Molten GLVC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week which came on November 18. 

Hickey has seen action in and been apart of the lineup in 27 matches with 97 sets played so far in the 2024 season. The graduate student currently ranks second in the conference with 566 digs, only two behind the GLVC leader while leading the way with her 5.84 digs/set.

Earlier this season, Hickey recorded career dig No. 1,500 and that number continues to grow as she currently has 1,653. Hickey was awarded Molten GLVC Defensive Player of the Week for two weeks in a row which came on October 21 and 28. 

Elena Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) was named the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award Honoree for Lewis. Gubera distinguished herself through sportsmanship and ethical behavior as the sophomore appeared in 16 matches and 31 sets while recording seven service aces and 77 digs. 

These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school’s two Spalding…
