KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the 19th time in program history, Tennessee volleyball was selected for the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Vols open the postseason with a matchup against Georgia Tech on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The Big Orange will head to the Madison region after the Wisconsin Badgers earned the No. 7 national seed. They open against Fairfield, the champions out of the MAAC.
This marks the fourth straight year in which Tennessee advanced to the NCAA Tournament and fifth time overall under head coach Eve Rackham Watt. The Lady Vols own a 17-18 record all time in the postseason, including 13-6 advantage in first round matchups.
Last year, the Big Orange earned the No. 10 national seed and hosted the first and second rounds for the first time since 2011. The Lady Vols defeated High Point and then Western Kentucky to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005.
Prior to that under Rackham Watt, Tennessee advanced to the second round of the tournament after first-round wins over Colorado State (2018) and North Carolina (2021). In 2022, the Lady Vols fell short in a five-set battle to Purdue in the first round.
For Rackham Watt, this is her 13th postseason appearance as a coach after going to the NCAA Tournament eight times as an assistant at North Carolina. She also made four postseason trips as a player.
