CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Olivia Babcock was named the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Player of the Year, announced on Friday, December 20.
The 2024 ACC Volleyball Player of the Year helped lead the Panthers to a 33-2 overall record and 19-1 conference record this season, as well as to their fourth consecutive trip to the national semifinals. In the 2024 season, Babcock hit .323 with 538 kills while adding 71 aces to the Panther offense. Defensively, the Los Angeles, California, native recorded 208 digs and 128.0 total blocks.
The 2024 ACC Volleyball Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team selection and AVCA First-Team All-American’s 538 kills this season are the most in the ACC and rank 10th in Division I volleyball. Babcock also sits at the top of the conference and No. 12 in the nation with 4.72 kills per set.
In the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Championship semifinals against Louisville on Thursday, December 19, Babcock recorded a career-high 33 kills, setting a Pitt record for most kills in an NCAA Tournament match. Her 33 kills were the most in a NCAA semifinal game since Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson’s 50-kill performance in 2019.
Babcock’s 71 aces are the most in the ACC and No. 5 in the nation. The sophomore cemented her name in the history book, recording the most service aces for the Pitt Panthers in the 25-point scoring era. She also puts her name down as the first ACC player to receive the award while a member of the conference.
