ACC Recognizes Francis – Stanford Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. – Middle blocker Sami Francis has been named the ACC’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

It is the first career weekly honor for the senior, who averaged a team-best 1.91 blocks per set to go with 2.09 kills on .478 hitting and 3.14 points per set in wins over UC Santa Barbara, Pepperdine and No. 6 Texas. She shares the weekly honor with Louisville libero Elena Scott.

The San Diego native posted a career-high 10 blocks and had nine kills on 16 errorless swings to hit a season-high .562 against the Gauchos. She followed up with a team-high six blocks and seven kills on .438 hitting versus the Waves. 

Francis tied for a match-high with five blocks to go with seven kills on .429 hitting as Stanford held the sixth-ranked Longhorns to its lowest team hitting percentage in over 11 years (.125). Stanford is 7-0 to start the season for the first time since 2014.

No. 2 Stanford will take on No. 5 Nebraska on Wednesday in Lincoln at 5 p.m. PT on Big Ten Network. The Cardinal then returns to The Farm to host No. 11 Kentucky on Saturday to close out nonconference play. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
