Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, April 24, 2023 – After undergoing both theoretical and practical training sessions, nine accompanying referees had learned essential components and now it’s the time for these determined referees to turn their useful information received into real-life situations while officiating at the 2023 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.
The continent’s topflight club championship is set to be held at the 3,000-seater Vinh Phuc Gymnasium here between April 25 and May 2, with a total of 9 teams vying for top honor and the lone berth to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship to be held later this year in China.
The participating teams comprised Liaoning Donghua VC (China), King Whale Taipei (Chinese Taipei), Hip Hing VC (Hong Kong, China), Paykan (Iran), Hisamitsu Springs (Japan), Altay VC (Kazakhstan), Khuvsgul Erchim (Mongolia), Diamond Food Fine Chef Sport Club (Thailand) and Sport Center 1 (hosts Vietnam).
To make the tournament a success in terms of rules applied fairly and a fair-play environment, the referees have been assigned to be on duty in the match on the court. Consequently, to give the nine accompanying referees chances to improve the level of refereeing and find new solutions to enhance their performance at the highest level, they underwent both training sessions as aforementioned.
All of them learned the useful refereeing matters and instructive guidance from Referee Delegate Mr Takashi Shimoyama from Japan and Referee Sub Committee Dr Khaled Al-Zughaibi from Saudi Arabia.
According to Mr Shimoyama, all accompanying referees are well-qualified and they all performed well theoretically and practically. During the Referee and VIS Clinic, with referees, court & referee managers & supervisors, announcers, scorers, line judges, moppers, ball retrievers & VIS staff attending, Vietnam’s Sport Center 1 team players had been split into two groups to play in a demonstration match. Referees took turns officiating as the first and the second referees.
At the end of the Referee and VIS Clinic, Referee Delegate Mr Shimoyama, Referee Sub Committee Dr Khaled and all accompanying referees thanked the Vietnamese players and staff coaches for their great contribution in playing a demonstration match for the clinic.
