Lanzhou, China, May 20, 2024 – Fourteen aspiring candidates from four countries are currently participating in the Asian International Refereeing Candidate Course here, with FIVB Instructor Mr Sun Jianhui from China theoretically and practically conducting the fine-tuning, one-week course, assisted by Mr Wang Ning, Member of AVC Referees Committee.
The course has officially commenced on Sunday at Ban Mu Fang Tang Grand Hotel in Lanzhou, China and will run through coming Saturday. The 14 candidates attending the course, hosted by China Volleyball Association in conjunction with AVC, consist of nine males and five females from China, Malaysia, Mongolia and Hong Kong China.
One of the most valuable aspects of the course was the opportunity to learn from one of top-tier instructors and from the group of these candidates by exchanging different perspectives and best practices. The course is also held to improve the knowledge and competence of referee candidates so that they may gain recognition as future AVC referees and AVC international referees.
Aside from the theoretical knowledge in the face-to-face session conducted in a classroom setting at the aforementioned hotel, the practical part will also be set up for these referee candidates during the China U19 Women Volleyball Championship.
It is expected that after completion of the one-week-long course, these aspiring candidates can progress to international status by attending and passing an international course within AVC and being observed at an appropriate level of competitions, the very first step into an accomplished referee in the near future.
