Alabama Volleyball Heads to Lexington for Saturday Match at No. 18 Kentucky


LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alabama volleyball resumes Southeastern Conference play this weekend, facing 18th-ranked Kentucky on the road on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. CT.

Scouting Alabama

  • Alabama’s lone contest of week six is a Saturday road contest in Lexington, Ky., against 18th-ranked Kentucky at 3 p.m. CT
  • The Wildcats are the second ranked opponent on the Tide’s schedule, previously facing then-No. 12 Florida on Sept. 21 in Gainesville
  • Six of the Alabama’s next nine matches will be on the road before finishing out the regular season with five of its remaining seven at home
  • The Tide leads the SEC and ranks fourth nationally with 115 service aces
  • Alabama returns 14 players from last year’s squad, including seniors Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells and fifth-year senior Abby Marjama
  • Newcomers this year include freshman Micah Gryniewicz, an AVCA All-Region honoree from Chandler, Ariz., and sophomore Maddy McCormick, who played at Colorado State last season

Last Time out: vs. Auburn

  • Alabama dropped a pair of four-set decisions to Auburn last weekend in Foster Auditorium
  • The Tide won the first set in each match, 28-26 on Saturday and 25-16 on Sunday, but fell in the subsequent three sets each time
  • Kendyl Reaugh led the team with 26 kills (3.25/set), finishing in double figures in each match to extend her current streak to five-straight matches with 10+ kills
  • Alyiah Wells was just behind with 25 kills (3.13/set), hitting .404 on the weekend including a .435 clip on Sunday, her fourth match of the season above .400
  • Brooke Slusser led the team with 65 assists and was second with 18 digs, including her fifth double-double of the season on Saturday (40 assists, 10 digs)

Alabama Aces

  • Alabama leads the SEC in service aces as a team (115, 2.05/set) while Abby Marjama (35, 0.67/set) leads the individual rankings
  • The Tide is the only team with over 100 aces, 16 more than second-place Auburn with 99
  • After Marjama’s 35 aces, the next-highest individual total in the league is 22
  • Nationally, the Crimson Tide is sixth in total aces 11th in aces-per-set
  • Marjama is fourth nationally in total aces and seventh in aces-per-set
