Alabama Volleyball Rallies to Defeat Texas A&M in Four Sets Wednesday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After 10 days since its last match, Alabama volleyball came out firing Wednesday night on the road at Texas A&M, rallying from a set one loss to win the next three and take the 3-1 win, snapping a five-match win streak from the Aggies in the all-time series.

The win is Alabama’s (8-15, 2-9 SEC) first over Texas A&M (12-11, 4-8 SEC) since Oct. 26, 2018, which was also the only previous road win for the Crimson Tide over the Aggies.

Alabama fought back from an early deficit in the first to tie it at 7-7 and after four more tie scores, a kill from Kendyl Reaugh put the Crimson Tide ahead 14-13. With Alabama ahead 15-14 at the media timeout, the Aggies scored four unanswered out of the break and the Tide took its first team timeout now trailing 18-15. Texas A&M surged to set point, 24-17, but stalled as Alabama scored five in a row before the Aggies eventually pushed through to win, 25-22. In set two, a 4-0 run that included three straight service aces from Sami Jacobs gave the Tide a 10-7 lead. Texas A&M briefly retook the lead but Alabama reached set point first, 24-22, and held on to win 26-24 and even the match.

A 4-0 run early in the third put the Tide in front 10-7 as the Aggies regrouped with a timeout. Alabama kept its foot on the gas, pulling ahead 16-9 before Texas A&M’s second timeout. The Aggies clawed their way back into it late, tying it up at 22-22, but the Tide closed it out to win, 25-23, and take a 2-1 match lead. A 4-0 run in the fourth capped by back-to-back aces from Abby Marjama gave Alabama a 12-10 lead before Texas A&M took a timeout. Another ace from Marjama later in the set made it 21-17 at the Aggies second timeout and it remained a four-point lead at match point, 24-20, before a kill from Chaise Campbell closed out the win.

Alabama had three players with double-digit kills, led by 14 from Alyiah Wells. Kendyl Reaugh tallied her sixth double-double of the season and third in SEC play with 13 kills and 15 digs. Emily Janek also earned a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs along with seven blocks, including a career-high five solo. Abby Marjama led the team with five aces, improving her season total to 57, while Sami Jacobs tied her season high with three, all coming consecutively in the second set.
