Alex Adelman '22 Returns to Elmira as Assistant Volleyball Coach

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce announced the hiring of Alex Adelman ’22 as assistant men’s and women’s volleyball coach on Monday. Adelman, who just completed a successful four-year career with the Soaring Eagles, helped guide EC to the UVC Tournament for the first time since 2018 this past season.

“I’m super excited to return to my alma mater and help the team in a different prospective”, said Adelman. “Being on the court for four years will help me coach the group that I have been with for the past two or three seasons. I am excited to work with Ryan (McDonough) as we both have similar coaching philosophies, as well as what we want to accomplish and how to do it. I can’t wait to see where we can go in the upcoming season.”

During his career with the Soaring Eagles, Adelman played in 86 matches while amassing over 228 digs (0.92 D/S). A captain during the 2022 season, Adelman helped Elmira to a 3-2 win over #14 ranked St. John Fisher on March 16 while taking on eight nationally-ranked opponents during the season.

During the 2021 season, Adelman logged a career-best 71 digs with a 1.42 digs-per-set average, both of which ranked third on the team before the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the season, Adelman helped Elmira to a win over Randolph Macon after posting a career-best 26 digs in the match.

I am extremely excited to bring on Alex as my assistant coach“, said head men’s and women’s volleyball coach Ryan McDonough ’19. “I have had the privilege to not only coach Alex, but play alongside him during my career at Elmira. Alex represents what the the Elmira College volleyball program stands for. He is hardworking, passionate and brings a volleyball IQ that is second to none. His experience and knowledge of the game is going to benefit this program tremendously and I can’t wait to see him grow into the coach I know he can be.”

Adelman graduated from Elmira College earlier this year, earning his undergraduate degree in Education with a concentration in Mathematics. A three-year varsity award winner at East Meadow High School, Adelman was named All-Division and All-County during his time with the Jets. The 2022 EC graduate is an East Meadow, New York native.
