Alex Vega Earns Both Empire 8 & UVC Rookie of the Week Honors


ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference and The United Volleyball Conference announced their weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Alex Vega ’26 earning Rookie of the Week accolades for both conferences.
 
Vega, a freshman from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, helped the Soaring Eagles to a 2-1 record on the week while recording a career-best 16 digs against D’Youville on Saturday afternoon.
 

The Purple & Gold went 2-0 on Sunday with victories against Adrian and Medaille as Vega recorded 11 digs, five assists, and three kills in a 3-0 sweep against Adrian. Vega would later tally eight digs and three assists in a 3-0 sweep against the Mavericks to close the weekend for Elmira.
 
Vega leads Elmira this season with 141 digs through 59 sets played while also sporting a .976 reception percentage. This is the third E8 Rookie of the Week award for Vega this season while the Rookie of the Week nod from the UVC is his first of the season.
 
Elmira (12-6, 2-3 UVC) returns home for its Senior Day contest against league foe MIT inside Speidel Gymnasium on March 31 beginning at 5:00 P.M.
