Alex Vega Earns Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for Men's Volleyball

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Alex Vega ’26 earning Rookie of the Week for men’s volleyball after helping the Soaring Eagles to a 2-0 record, including a win over the #10 ranked Violets from NYU to begin UVC play on Sunday.

Vega, a freshman from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, helped the Soaring Eagles to a pair of wins after posting a team-best 12 digs from the Libero position on Sunday against the Violets. In addition to his dig total (21 for the week), Vega was responsible for a .400 hitting percentage after connecting on a trio of setter dumps for kills on the week.

Vega, who has earned his first Rookie of the Week accolade, has committed just three reception errors for the Soaring Eagles in eight matches played, while helping EC to its best start (7-1) in program history.
