Cortland sophomore middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 9. Guedez earned the award for the second time this season.
Guedez averaged 1.8 blocks per set and totaled 18 kills (2.3 per set) in two Cortland conference road victories last weekend. She had nine blocks, two solo, in a four-set win at Geneseo on Friday and recorded five blocks, two solo, along with 12 kills in a five-set win at Brockport Saturday. Her solo block accounted for Cortland’s match point against Brockport.
Through 60 sets over 17 matches this season, Guedez has 60 blocks, 110 kills and a .281 attack percentage. She ranks third in the SUNYAC with 1.0 blocks per set.
Cortland (13-4, 7-0 SUNYAC) will host a tri-match Saturday versus non-league opponents Clarkson (1 p.m.) and Williams (6 p.m.), with Clarkson facing Williams at 3:30 p.m.
