Arizona Opens ASU Collegiate Cup with Sweep over Hornets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Arizona opened the weekend with a 3-0 sweep over Alabama State on Thursday night in Alabama.   
 
Jaelyn Hodge led the Wildcats with 12 kills and a .455 hitting percentage while Kiari Robey followed with 10 kills and a .600 clip. Robey also recorded three blocks in the match.
 
Arizona won the first set 25-20. The Wildcats’ offense hit .400 on 19 kills led by Jordan Wilson, Journey Tucker, and Hodge with four kills each. Robey and Carlie Cisneros both tallied three kills to help Arizona win the first set. The set began with both teams trading points before Arizona took the lead at 17-16 and take the opening set.  
 
The Cats took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 win in the second set. Arizona’s offense hit a match-high .517 led by Hodge with six kills and Wilson with four kills. Robey added three kills and a block solo. Arizona took the lead halfway through the set and took advantage of multiple scoring runs to win the set.
 
Arizona won the match with a 25-13 win in the third set. Robey led the offense with four kills while Hodge and Sydnie Vanek had two kills apiece. Cisneros, Wilson, and Haven Wray each served one ace to help the Cats. Arizona’s defense had two blocks to hold Alabama State to a -.045 hitting percentage in the set.
