Arizona Sweeps Alabama State – University of Arizona Athletics

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats swept Alabama State (25-12, 25-27, 25-18) to close out the non-conference slate.
 
Arizona’s offense hit a team season-high of .453 and five Wildcats hit above .415. Sofia Maldonado Diaz and Puk Stubbe each had nine kills and Jordan Wilson tallied eight kills. Journey Tucker hit .800 on four kills in her freshman debut.
 
The Wildcats defense totaled eight blocks and held Alabama State to a .063 hitting percentage. Alayna Johnson led Arizona with four blocks and Tucker tallied three blocks.
 
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-12. Arizona jumped out to an early lead and hit .429 while holding the Hornets to a .000 hitting percentage to win the set. Maldonado Diaz led the way with four kills while Jaelyn Hodge and Wilson had two kills each. Six different Wildcats had one block each to hold the Hornets to only eight kills.
 
Arizona took the second set, 25-16. Alabama State took an early lead but the Wildcats pulled away halfway through the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wildcats’ offense hit a match-high .545 led by Maldonado Diaz who hit .833 on five kills. Stubbe and Wilson had three kills each and Tucker tallied two kills.
