TUCSON, Ariz. – Charita Stubbs picked up her first win as the head coach of Arizona Volleyball as the Wildcats closed out the Cactus Classic with a four-set win over Pacific. Arizona won the first set, 25-19, lost the second set, 22-25, and won the last two sets, 25-23 and 25-19.
Jaelyn Hodge led Arizona with 15 kills and 12 digs – her third double-double of the season in as many matches. Sophomore transfer Jordan Wilson followed with nine kills and three Wildcats – Sofia Maldonado Diaz, Puk Stubbe, and Alayna Johnson – notched six kills each to help the Arizona attack.
Arizona’s defense totaled seven blocks led by Johnson with four block assists and Ana Heath who tallied three blocks.
Arizona won the first set, 25-21. Hodge had four kills and Maldonado Diaz had three kills to lead the offense. Arizona hit .400 in the set while the defense held the Tigers to a .171 hitting percentage.
In the second set, Pacific edged out the Cats with a 22-25 win to even the match. Stubbe recorded four kills and Maldonado Diaz had three kills but the Tigers served three aces to win the set.
The Cats won the third set, 25-23. Hodge and Wilson both had three kills and one block to help Arizona take a 2-1 lead in the match. Wilson hit .429 in the set.
Arizona closed out the match with a 25-19 win in set four. The Cats hit .469 in the set led by Hodge and Wilson with six kills apiece. Freshman Kenzie Schoenhardt made her debut with an ace to help Arizona win the set.
