Surabaya, Indonesia, July 23, 2024 – The 22nd Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship is now underway here from July 23 to 30, with a strong field of 16 teams including defending and seven-time champions Iran vying for top honour.
Teams were divided into four pools of four teams apiece, with hosts Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Hong Kong China in Pool A. Qatar, Chinese Taipei, defending and seven-time champions Iran and former four-time winners China are in Pool B, regarded as Group of Death, while Pool C consists of former three-time champions Japan, Kuwait, India and Bangladesh and Pool D comprises Thailand, Kazakhstan, former six-time winners Korea and Vietnam.
The pool round-robin preliminaries are being held from July 23 to 25, with July 26 the rest day. The competition resumes on July 27 and 28 with classification round for 1-8 places in Pool E and Pool F and for 9-16 places in Pool G and Pool H. Semifinals 1-4 and 5-8 as well as ranking rounds for 9-12 and 13-16 places will take place on July 29. The finals will be held on Tuesday, July 30.
Top four teams from this topflight championship excluding Iran will qualify for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship. As current world champions, Iran have automatically qualified for the next year’s world meet.
