Bangkok, Thailand, October 28, 2022 – Atyrau VC and Altay VC reigned supreme at the 30th Kazakhstan Men’s and Women’s Cups Volleyball Championships, with the former producing comeback 3-2 win against Burevestnik VC in the final showdown earlier this month.
Altay
The final stage in the men’s event was held in Atyrau City, Kazakhstan between October 10 and 13, while the final phase in the women’s event took place in Petropavlovsk from October 21 to 27.
In the men’s final encounter, hosts Atyrau VC, which picked up silver medal at the 2018 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar following their disappointing 0-3 loss to eventual winners Khatam Ardakan from Iran in the final clash, took on strong rivals Burevestnik VC.
Atyrau
Atyrau, claiming two bronze medals in the Asian Men’s Club event in 2002 and 2004, went down to Burevestnik VC, which took bronze medal at the 2021 Asian Men’s Club Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand to their name, in the closely-contested first set 23-25, but roared back mightily to take the next two sets 25-21 and 25-23.
The host side dropped their rhythm to succumb to 16-25 defeat in the fourth set, forcing the tie-breaker to decide the eventual winners. Atyrau and Burevestnik fought tooth and nail, but the former proved steadier at the home stretch to win the thrilling decider 15-13 and match.
Burevestnik
Atyrau VC captured the gold medal, with Burevestnik VC and Pavlodar VC taking silver and bronze medals respectively.
Pavlodar
In the women’s competition, which was concluded on Thursday in Petropavlovsk, Altay VC, champions at the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Championship in Thailand, avenged the 2-3 loss to compatriots Kuanysh in the gold-medal match of this year’s Asian Women’s Club Championship on home soil in Semay after 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-18) rout of the closest rivals in the showdown.
Kuanysh
Altay VC, powered by Sana Anarkulova, MVP at the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Championship, captured the women’s crown, while current Asian Club winners Kuanysh VC and Zhetyssu VC claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
