AVCA Team Academic Award - Stanford University Athletics

STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal men’s, women’s and beach volleyball teams were recognized by the United States Marine Corp (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) today as recipients of the AVCA Team Academic Award. Stanford is one of just two programs in the nation, spanning across all divisions, to have each of its programs (men’s, women’s and beach) earn the prestigious academic honor.

The women’s indoor team boasted a 3.432 team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year with 14 of the team’s 17 players carrying a 3.30-or-better.  The beach team posted a 3.641 GPA with 16 of its 18 student-athletes recording a 3.30-or-better while the men’s team recorded a 3.580 GPA with 11 of 14 student-athletes earning a 3.30-or-better.

It marks the eighth consecutive season the women’s indoor team has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, and the 16th overall. The women’s indoor team is one of seven Pac-12 schools to earn the team award.

It is also the eighth straight season the beach team has received the AVCA Team Academic Award. The beach squad is one of six Pac-12 teams to be recognized.

The men’s team has now earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the third consecutive season, marking the 11th time in program history. The Cardinal is the only MPSF squad to earn the award in 2021-22 and also achieved honor roll status (top 20 percent team GPA in the nation).

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
